Orbitals are similar to solar systems as this video makes even more clear.
If there were just a few planets then an electron could be split into being like a few planets.
If there is matter everywhere, which there is, then the electron is like a cloud anyway. (There is smaller matter than the average asteroid).
Angular momentum is even part of Schrodinger’s Equation.
When an electron changes orbitals, because the matter everywhere in the orbital gives the same mass density and total mass, the energy bump or dump is very much the same.
They will still pass each other when moving both ways in general (entanglement).
